In a 2024 review of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra's performance of York Bowen's Symphony 1, the orchestra's performance was called "transportive"by Matt Ambrosio who went on to say "Highest praises to the principal flautist Brandon LePage and principal clarinetist Nancy Mackenzie for their outstanding solos. As if singing an aria, the woodwind soloists’ respective melodic lines were beautifully shaped, perfectly phrased, and in the most wonderful timbres."
In a 2023 review of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra's performance of Joseph Haydn's brilliant "Symphony no. 13", Matt Dine from the capitol times wrote "In the third movement, LePage demonstrated skilled control throughout the solo's many leaps, wide range, and contrasting dynamics. It was a treat to hear members of the WCO shine."
Michigan based flutist Brandon LePage is the child of two very musical parents (Bob, an organist, and Marie, a pianist, both of them vocalists) who not only continue to work in the field today, but who also released an amazing pop album in the mid-1980’s. He grew up on a healthy diet of Bach organ fugues, the Spice Girls, and a fabulous blend of many other musical genres. As an elementary school student, Brandon started his professional career as a member of the Children’s Chorus with the Michigan Opera Theatre, and since birth he has not stopped singing, dancing, or working hard to find any possible way to express himself through all musical means available. His amazing sister works as an Early Childhood Psychologist focusing on 0-2 year olds and how their brain develops and processes trauma and enjoys her life with her husband and their adorable puppy, Oakley.
Proudly on faculty at Oakland University as Lecturer of Flute, Brandon has also taught at the Flint School of Performing Arts and A&R Music in Lincoln Park. Currently, he also serves as Principal Flute of both the Flint Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and is a newly minted "Doctor" having just completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, studying with Professor Amy Porter. He spends many of his long drives indulging in the music of pop divas from the 2000’s (Britney Spears is a particular favorite) and catching up with family and friends from coast to coast. Brandon has performed as Principal Flute with the Detroit Symphony, Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, and Columbus Symphony (where he is also an Associate Musician) among others. He can be found performing in symphony orchestras across the midwest and is especially fond of dropping by Chicago to break up his travels and visit his good friends who live there.
As a chamber musician, Brandon founded the Chamber Artists of Southeast Michigan in 2013, and through this organization he brings live concerts to his hometown of Wyandotte, MI and has also started a scholarship for Downriver area teens to help them with summer studies, instrument repairs, and the cost of attending summer programs and marching band camps. With CASM he has commissioned and premiered many new compositions, and his work as an advocate for the creation and performance of contemporary music (particularly from under-represented communities) has grown into one of the loudest parts of his career.
Brandon holds his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, his Master of Music degree is from the San Francisco Conservatory where he studied under Timothy Day, and his Bachelor of Music Degree was achieved at the Michigan State University College of Music (yes, both green AND blue blood now runs through his veins) where he studied with Richard Sherman. He plays on a 9k Muramatsu flute and is forever grateful to both Ervin Monroe and Carole Scott for keeping his flutistic light shining bright through his middle and high school studies.
